Default Spiderman 3 figures Debut this weekend

If you haven't seen the commercials on TV yet Hasbro is kicking off there Spiderman 3 toy debut this weekend. They'll be having all kinds of promotions at the big three (Walmart, Targtet and TRU) like exclusive figures and stuff. You can get all the info and a nice checklist at http://www.hasbro.com/marvel/spiderman/

Blah...thse look lame...espacially with the SMALLER scale and apparent lack of articulation. It is SPIDEY for peets sake...should have TONS of spidery articulation. PLUS there is a price increase as well...shame on you Hasbro.

I haven't been wild about Hasbro's Marvel figures so far, but I wait to see these in person before I decide. I'm not excited by what I'm seeing, but I have a feeling that they'll do pretty well with the 8 and under crowd when these come out.

Okay, well... this line is everywhere now and I'm not impressed. One or two figures like Sandman and the "super articulated" Spider-Man with the suction cup web thing are decent, but on the whole it's a very mediocre line of toys.

...which is lame, because it does nothing to get me (or my 9 year old) excited for this film.

Yeah, they looked pretty sad to me overall. The only ones I thought were decent was the Sandman figures, but its the same one with different hands in each one it seemed.

Also saw the GH type Spidey 3 figures.

wow, all the sandman love... i was so UNimpressed with the sandman figures that he's one of the only characters i DIDN'T get.

that said, i picked up both red-and-blue SA and black SA spidey, the "new" goblin without the removable mask (because he had more articulation), and the venom with the ladder-looking web, not the one with the action feature.

i did a comparison review of both the SA figures over at my spider-man site, and here's a snippet:

First, on both figures, the articulation isn't as "super" as we've come to expect from Spider-man in the past. There are key articulation points missing, and others that would've been cool, but not totally necessary. The main let-down is the absence of a swivel-waist. What we are given instead is the "floating" ribcage, but that really only has so much range until it looks unnatural. It's the biggest sore-spot in the articulation, but we're also missing swivels at the forearms and calves, which in the past have been major bonuses. We have a new design for the knee-joint to give the legs major articulation: Instead of a ball/swivel at the hip, we have a hinge and peg, but at the knee we have a triple-action piece, a swivel post coming down from the thigh that then turns into the classic double-hinge knee. It's an innovative design that needs a little fine-tuning, but it's impressive engineering. Other than that, we have a single-hinge at the ankle, triple-action ball-joint shoulders, double-hinge elbows, and hinge wrists in addition to the ball-jointed head, though the head has limited up-down movement capabilities.

Sculpt is handled well, and in comparison is more different than it would appear at first glance. Most of the body parts are actually different between the two figures! They've done a lot to make a distinction between the bulkiness of the black costume version over the red-and-blue version. The end result is a bit mixed, but over-all it's really impressive that they're not just the same exact figure with some retooling of the spider-symbol on the chest and back (the black costume version has a more angular, aggressive looking spider on both the front and back.) The only things that seem to be hold-overs from one to the other are the heads and hands. Everything else, including the feet, are more bulky on the black costume version, more lithe and thin on the red-and-blue. The hands are sculpted in single poses - the right hand in the classic web-shooting configuration, and the left hand in a semi-closed clenched position, in order for the figure to cling to the enclosed suction-cup web accessory. It's a bit too bad that the one hand is constantly shooting a web, but at least it looks cool.

Major differences in the over-all appearance of the two are due to the sculpt, however. While the black costume version is pretty tight, the red-and-blue version is a bit gappy, especially around the hips and ribcage. The red-and-blue version's ribcage and hip articulation lends itself to more extreme positions, and that may be the reason for the gaps, but it's a bit off-putting in comparison to the black-clad brother.

Whoa! Don't go crazy now. All I meant was that when these figures go on clearance in a few weeks, that's one of two I might buy. (Still a slim chance though.)
